Five hours west of Bulawayo is Masvingo and the Great Zimbabwe Ruins. An impressive hill top setting overlooks the Great Enclosure, which has a 11m high wall. Despite setting off at 7am, it was hot (34 in the shade) and my appetite for wandering around ruins soon wilted.

Impressive cave art and scenery an hour south of Bulawayo. The Zimbabwean people continue to be very friendly, and we are usually waved through the many police blocks. The main roads are in good condition with little traffic. The facilities in the National Park are basic at best. Twenty dollars just about buys a cold water shower.

Several hours drive south of Vic falls are the Khami Ruins, just outside Bulawayo. Despite an unplanned drive through the local townships (keep driving, no u-turns, do not stop…), we eventually found them. They are not Angkor Wat, but are important for local history.
