Kepler Track, one of the great walks of NZ, circular route from Te Anau (3 days – 70km).

2 days of rain and low cloud – we couldn’t see any of the apparently fabulous views.

Shovelling landslips out of the way. The Track had been closed earlier in the week because of snow and it had only just re-opened, landslips and all.

Lake Marion, north of Te Anau, 3 hour return hike off the Milford Sound road. Very few people make the climb up so an ideal spot for lunch.

Lake Marion, viewed from Mount Summit (1st day of the Routeburn Track).

Once you get to Milford Sound you (and several hundred other people) can take a cruise on the Two a penny ships lined up ready and waiting. The journey on the road is much better than the final destination.

Or you can take a Milford Sound flight – the planes continuously take-off and land, reminiscent of Heathrow, on their 15 minute scenic flights.
